Summer Term 2019

The National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art is a fascinating museum in the historic centre of Newmarket.  Paintings by artists such as Stubbs, Munnings, Singer Sargent, Peter Blake and Mark Wallinger are displayed alongside silver and bronzes, as well as equine-related artefacts, with interactive and audio-visual displays.  We will have a guided tour and a chance to see retired racehorses being retrained. Plenty of places to choose from for lunch; alternatively, bring a picnic.

Paul King, a trustee, has kindly offered to guide us round The Great Hospital. It was founded in 1249 by Bishop Walter de Suffield to shelter poor and ill chaplains of the diocese; later, the church of St Helen was built. There is plenty of parking.  Why not have lunch afterwards at the Adam and Eve pub, which is owned by The Great Hospital?
