Please use the list below to mark your diaries with the events you may wish to attend, all are full days starting  at 10.00 or 10.30 and concluding  at 4.00pm

The Federation brochure giving full details of each event is in preparation and will be distributed to all Norfolk and Suffolk WEA branches and all branches of the Norfolk Library Service as soon as possible. Meanwhile, further information is available on 01603 782555.

Tues 28th April:  Wild Flowers of Norfolk – Cley Village Hall – Simon Harrup author  of Wild Flowers field guide – talk and after lunch – short car journey to site for guided identification walk.

Wed 13th May:  Langham Dome -1942/3 RAF unique training building  – talk – film and display – in afternoon Binham Priory  – talk – guided tour.

Tues 2nd June:  Estelle Serpell Memorial Lecture – Tudor Costume – Brundall Memorial Hall – Jean Smith – a detailed discussion on this very flamboyant period of dress for both men & women – eye-catching shapes, styles and colours.

Mon 22nd June:  Norwich & Norfolk 19th Century Men of business – Upton Village Hall – Chris Armstrong, local author -talk –  some of the individuals and families who put our area at the forefront  of manufacturing  specific products during  this period – then a look at the development of local department stores

Wed 1st July:  South Elmham Hall and Minster – owners John and Nicole Sanderson – talk and guided tour of this 13th century bishop’s palace, gatehouse garden & grounds  – once used as residence for hunting bishops! – after lunch (provided)  tour of the ancient deer park and ruins of  the Minster

Thurs 16th July:  Letheringsett Watermill and guided tour of Holt –  talk –  miller Michelle Thurlow  about the history of watermills  – followed by guided tour seeing the operation of the mill – one of very few still producing flour in UK.  After lunch a guided tour of Holt – great historic areas and properties – numerous thriving businesses.

Thurs 13th Aug:  Castle Acre Priory,Church and Castle – Mary Fewster – introductory talk – guided tour of Priory – visit the Church – after lunch a walk to view the castle ruins and learn of its creation and history

Mon 17th Aug:   Bungay – Bungay Community Centre – Chris Reeve  – historian and author – talk -history of town – after lunch guided tour including church – Fisher Theatre – castle ruins
