During this 400th anniversary year of his death, we will consider how Shakespeare created one of his most extravagant and compelling villains, exploring a range of sources, from medieval drama to Machiavelli. We will also look at the extent to which Shakespeare deviated from the historical Richard, and why he might have wished to do so. Extracts from Richard III will be provided, but you are likely to get most out of the programme if you are able to read the play in advance.
